Giratina Basic Fun Keychain Review

Excuses, excuses...I did a review yesterday but it was so horrid typing it that I gave up right at the last paragraph. I'll start slowly and work my way up...

Basic Fun has made these keychains for quite some time. I remember I had one when I was barely 6 years old. I believe I had a Squirtle, but I'm not totally sure. These keychains feature a spring loaded Pokeball that opened up to reveal the Pokemon inside.

Today we have Giratina, the Ghost/Dragon legendary Pokemon. This keychain is that of the Origin Forme, the snake-like version with spider-like limbs and spikes. I believe they had the Altered Forme in a previous wave. The Origin Forme is found on the box of Platinum and various accessories such as my DS carrying case.

For a small keychain like this, it certainly has good detail. Measuring a tad over 1 inch, it is pretty accurate to the game sprite. The segments along it's body are nicely sculpted. The spikes have the appropriate detail that splits the yellow from the grey. It's spider-like legs coming from the back engulfs the sides of Giratina giving it a big, bulky look. The head crest is nicely sculpted with a line detail underneath to show how the mouth cover would split open like in the anime and game. Also to note for the gimmick, there is a whole underneath on his body and there is also a keychain that is screwed to the top of it's head. You can simply unscrew it if you want to...

Paint is kinda good and kinda meh. For a figure this size the paint seems good, but some of the sculpted lines aren't painted fully, either missing the paint app there or the paint splashed to some other part of the figure. One of my complaints is they painted all the sections a dark grey then went over it with red paint that looks like it's fading into the grey. The colors on the figure is light grey molded plastic, a heavy dark grey, yellow, and red. I really liked the paint on the eyes. It's a menacing red with black pupils, they even got the line segments coming off the eyes, that's great detail.

The pokeball is barely 2 inches, but yet it can hold a ghost/dragon, hah. The pokeball is that of a regular pokeball, red top, white bottom, black middle line, and a button. Pressing the button will pop open the pokeball via the spring inside. Inside is a post that Giratina can plug into his...butt hole...Don't worry I have a Buizel, so the reference is more direct there...Moving on, the pokeball isn't completely sealed. There is a hole where the two halves of the pokeball meet to allow the chain to be exposed. You can clip it on your book bag, or, as the purpose is, on your keys. I prefer to attach it to my DS carrying case...

I find these keychains all over five below for $5. It's kinda expensive for a keychain to me, but it's a freaking Pokemon, ha. It's a unique gimmick in which you can certainly collect them all if money allows you, but you can also pretend you're a trainer. I recommend Giratina, but also any other Pokemon of your likings. 9.5/10, DTM Outz...

The Return...

Hey guys, or what's left of my non existent fan base...DTM is back after his long hiatus of some sorts. Why DTM is talking in third person, he has no idea...

Well, yeah, I've been gone for quite some time, school catches up to you and bites you in the ass. Now that it's summer break, I have some free time to type out. I got some new figures, mostly TFs, but most of them are sleeping in boxes in the attic. My room was too small for even scout figures, but even Hasbro knows when to take my money. They are having a promotion of buy $25 worth of select TF products, and you get three deluxes. Downside, they don't specifically tell you what figures, and you have a two month wait...

Moving on, or rather running away from that topic, other stuff took up my time. First off I got a Wii for Christmas while my Xbox 360 slowly dwindled to the black display it is now. Waiting on the new Xbox 360 "Slim" reviews and see how far Microsoft got with the problems. While that arose, I rose to become the Pokemon Champion (in Platinum). I have yet to get the remakes, but I don't feel like starting all over, I might get the Black or White versions whenever they come out.

Monday, I'll probably whip out a review, one of the (#) TFs I got for the promotion, plus ones that I bought before it even started. Maybe some other reviews here and there, we'll see. Until Monday, DTM Outz...
